Greenland

CULTURE

Today Greenlandic culture is a blending of traditional Inuit and Scandinavian culture. Inuit culture has a strong artistic tradition, dating back thousands of years. The inuit are known for an art form of figures called tupilak or an "evil spirit object."

Greenland also has a successful music culture. Some popular Greenlandic bands and artists include Chilly Friday (rock), Nuuk Posse (hip hop) and Rasmus Lyberth, who performed in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest. The music culture of Greenland also includes traditional Inuit music, largely based around singing and drums.

CLIMATE

SUMMER
By June, most of the sea ice has broken and the snow has retreated to the summits leaving the fjords clear for memorable boat trips with the Inuit hunters. The short summer nights are still chilly and temperatures drop rapidly as the sun lingers on the horizon before finally sinking in a blazing sunset.

WINTER
Winter in Greenland is a magical time.  In the south daylight hours are limited and the sun rises above the horizon for just a few hours each day, casting beautiful shadows and colours across the snowy land.

LANDSCAPE
(Almost) every place in Greenland is ice. However, it is quiet hard changing. The earth is warming up so the ice is melting. Aurora borealis (the northern light) is very nice to see. It appears mostly in darkness.

LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT
The level of development in Greenland is not that high.

The people who are living over there (called the inuits), are living from hunted food from whales and other animals. They live in small groups together and in houses made out of animal skins. The clothes are also made out of animal skins.
